4 Ways To Extend the Lifespan of Your Candles Immediately

When using a candle warmer, one of the 5 benefits it gives is great value as it extends the lifespan of a candle. Lighting a candle burns the wax along with the fragrance oil that might still be mixed with the wax, while a candle warmer really ensures that the full fragrance is evaporated into the room, hence this is why you can use the same candle for double the time stated as its burn hours.

Here I am going to give you 4 tips on how to maximise the lifespan and fragrance of your candle wax to create even more value for your candles:

1. Pour Away The Top Wax When You Cannot Smell Anything Anymore

Pour away the top wax when you cannot smell anything anymore.

This is the most important thing that you need to know when using a candle warmer. As candle warmers do not burn away the wax, the melted wax will solidify when you switch off the warmer.  After a while, you may find that the fragrance is the house is not as strong as it used to be, or you cannot smell it anymore. This means that the fragrance oil has all been evaporated off, and you will now have to pour away the top melted unscented wax into a container to expose the rest of the fragrance-filled wax. We understand that it might be a hard decision, but be assured by the fact that your candle’s lifespan has been extended! 🙂

It is also important to note that you do not pour the melted wax down your sink or your toilet bowl as it will choke the sewage system when it solidifies! Pour it into a trash bag or a container to dispose it.

2. Use Your Candle For About 4-5 Hours At A Time

We understand that you would like to have continuous fragrance in your home 24/7. However, to maximise the lifespan and fragrance of your candles, you will have to let them rest every 4-5 hours so that they can cool down and set again. Think of it as a recharge for the candle; switch off the candle warmer when you are not around to enjoy the fragrance.

3. Use Quality Candles

You might have experiences when the candle you used ceased to be fragrant after burning or using 1/3 of it. That is because in order to cut cost, some candle manufacturers only mix the fragrance oil at the top layer of the wax to create the illusion of a strong scented candle whilst leaving the rest of the wax unscented.  That is why it is important to get good quality candles that do not disappoint.

And that is why we recommend Yankee Candle. The candles from Yankee Candle are made from high quality, premium food-grade paraffin wax that can be found in food and makeup. The fragrance oil is mixed evenly with the wax, and you will get the same true-to-life scent from your very first burn to the last burn. Use a Yankee Candle with your candle warmer(s), and you will never get the issue of “no fragrance” again.

4. Store Your Candles Away From The Sun

Store them away from the sun to prevent discolouration and releasing its scent.

Keep your candles in a cool place away from direct sunlight when you are not using them. Sunlight can cause your candles to turn colours and if warm enough, releases the scent of the candles. So store them the right way, and you can maximise the lifespan and fragrance of your candles!
